AQUAMON F2F meeting

9, Dec, 2019

The AQUAMON project held its first annual meeting at CISTER, last 9th of December. This is a national FCT project led by Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) and including Laboratónio Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC) and CISTER.
The project aims at building a dependable sensor network on estuarine areas, with sensors deployed on the shores, but communicating over water with tidal variations. This is particularly relevant for early detection of floods and pollution spread. The team at CISTER includes Luis Almeida, Pedro M. Santos, Luis Pinto and Miguel Gaitán and is researching the impact of tides on the quality of WiFi links to provide guidelines for better network design. The use of WiFi enables higher bandwidth sensors, such as cameras. Of particular interest is the definition of adequate kind of antennas and their height and position. The group will then research on tide-aware network routing and develop appropriate analysis for network delay.
The AQUAMON project will run until October 2021.
